Introduction

1-Phenyl-2-pyrrolidone (CAS 4641-57-0) is an organic compound that appears as a white crystalline powder with a density of 1.147 g/cm³ and a melting point of 67–69°C, a boiling point of 355.5 ± 11.0°C (760 mmHg), a flash point of 174.7 ± 10.5°C, a refractive index of 1.578, and vapor pressure of 0.0 ± 0.8 mmHg at room temperature. It can be prepared by reacting γ-butyrolactone with aniline in the presence of phosphoric acid as a catalyst (180–210°C, yield 96.2%) or using a tubular reactor with deionized water as the catalyst (240–260°C, yield 96–97%). It has sedative effects. It should be stored in a sealed container at room temperature in a well-ventilated, dry place protected from light. Safety warnings include skin irritation (H315), severe eye irritation (H319), and respiratory tract irritation (H335).

1-Phenyl-2-pyrrolidone is a pyrrolidone compound, an important fine chemical and intermediate, mainly used in medicine, pesticides, dyes and organic synthesis intermediates; dispersants, oil additives, etc. As an important class of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic skeletons, pyrrolidone is widely present in natural products. Many natural products and synthetic compounds containing pyrrolidone structural units have strong biological activity and excellent luminescence properties, and play an important role in the research and development of new drugs and optoelectronic materials.
