Introduction

2-Ethylhexyl mercaptoacetate is a colorless, transparent, easy-flowing oily liquid at room temperature, with a boiling point of 125℃/1.6Kpa and a relative density (D420) of 0.97. The pure product has a special odor, is insoluble in water, and can be miscible with organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.

2-Ethylhexyl mercaptoacetate is weakly acidic and can react with alkaline substances such as sodium hydroxide to generate corresponding metal salts.

2-Ethylhexyl mercaptoacetate can react with heavy metals to generate water-insoluble heavy metal salts. It can be oxidized to disulfide by an oxidant, and then reduced to isooctyl thioglycolate by a reducing agent. This product can be oxidized to the corresponding sulfonic acid under the action of a strong oxidant.

Application

2-Ethylhexyl mercaptoacetate is used as an important intermediate in the fields of pesticides, medicines, organic synthesis, fine chemicals, etc. It is the main raw material for preparing tin mercaptides, antimony mercaptides, etc. It is used as a heat stabilizer and plasticizer for halogenated polyolefins. It can also be used as a branching inhibitor during the polymerization of PVC resin and a catalyst for bisphenol A.
