Introduce
N-Ethyl-o-toluidine (CAS 94-68-8) is a colourless to brownish-yellow transparent liquid that is highly soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether but insoluble in water. It is produced by the alkylation of o-toluidine with bromoethane or ethanol; the bromoethane method yields a yield of up to 85%. As a dye intermediate, N-ethyl-o-toluidine is primarily used in the synthesis of yellow-green fluorescent dyes such as Basic Red 6GDN. It also has applications in the pharmaceutical, pesticide, and proteomics research fields. It is classified as an acutely toxic substance, and protective equipment must be worn when handling it.
N-Ethyl-o-toluidine is an aniline derivative and can be used as an important intermediate for color developers, as well as dyes, medicines and pesticides.
