Introduction and Application
Sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropanesulfonate (CAS 126-83-0) is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 256°C and a density of 1.649 g/cm³. It has a pH (0.5% aqueous solution) of 4.5–7.0 (at 20°C) and is soluble in water. It should be stored in a sealed container at room temperature. Its molecular structure contains active chlorine atoms, hydroxyl groups, and sulfonic acid groups, and it can undergo alkylation reactions with imidazoline, amines to form amphoteric surfactants and can also be used in the etherification of starch to prepare water-loss control agents for drilling fluids.
Sodium 3-Chloro-2-hydroxypropanesulfonate is used to synthesize important functional monomers in the polymer industry, chemical intermediates, prepare surfactants, and drilling fluid fluid loss reduction materials.
