Carbohydrazide is a white crystalline powder, which is very soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol, ether and benzene.
Carbohydrazide is a derivative of hydrazine, which has a strong reducing property. Carbohydrazide has a wide range of uses in industry. It can be used as a deoxidiser for boiler water in the field of water treatment; it can also be used as a component of rocket propellant.
The hydrogen atom connected to the nitrogen atom of carbohydrazide is easily replaced by other groups. In the textile industry, it can also be used as a crosslinker for elastic fibers, a formaldehyde scavenger, and an antioxidant for pigments such as carotene.
