Introduce
o-Toluic acid (CAS 118-90-1) is an organic compound that appears as white prismatic or acicular crystals or grayish-white flaky solids. slightly soluble in water, readily soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, and chloroform. It is a flammable chemical; inhalation of dust and accidental ingestion must be avoided. It is primarily produced by the oxidation of o-xylene in air, catalyzed by cobalt naphthenate. Industrially, it is used in the pesticide sector to synthesize the herbicides “Rice-Free” and benzylsulfuron, in the pharmaceutical sector for the preparation of fungicides such as mefenoxam and fenoxanil, and in the organic chemical industry for the production of vinyl chloride polymerization initiators such as MBPO and color film developers, among others.
o-Toluic acid is mainly used in the production of ER330 brightener, benzylsulfuron, o-toluonitrile, o-cyanobenzoic acid and 3.5-dinitro-O-toluamide, etc.
