Introduction
Ethylene glycol-bis(2-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) is an aminopolycarboxylic acid chelating agent that can chelate divalent metal ions except Mg2+. Compared with EDTA, EGTA has a weaker affinity for magnesium ions and is therefore more selective for calcium ions. It is soluble in alkaline solutions and almost insoluble in water.
