Introduction
o-Cymene-5-ol is a member of the isopropyl cresol family and is approved by the FDA for direct and indirect use as a food additive.
It is an antimicrobial and preservative used in cosmetics and beauty products to prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms and thereby extend the shelf life of the product.
As such, it can often be added to products claiming antimicrobial, preservative, fungicide, antidandruff and other uses.
