Product Details

Introduce

Fluorescent Brightener 185 (CAS 12224-41-8) is a pale yellow crystalline powder with a melting point of 220°C and a density of 1.385 g/cm³, boiling point of 466.4 °C, and flash point of 235.9°C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents and concentrated acids. It is prepared by first reacting o-aminophenol with chloroacetic acid to form an intermediate, which is then condensed with sodium sulfide, and finally reacted with ethylene glycol to yield the final product. As a nonionic benzoxazole-type optical brightener, it is primarily used to enhance whiteness and vibrancy in materials such as polyolefin plastics, ABS engineering plastics, and polyester synthetic fibers.

Fluorescent Brightener 185 can be used for whitening and brightening various polyolefin plastics, ABS engineering plastics, organic glass, etc. It can also be used for whitening synthetic fibers and cotton and wool textiles.

Applications

Fluorescent Brightener 185 (CAS 12224-41-8) is primarily used as the commercial whitening agent EB. It can also be used to enhance whiteness and vibrancy in various polyolefin plastics, ABS engineering plastics, and acrylic glass. It belongs to the benzimidazole class of whitening agents and appears as pale yellow crystals. It has a melting point of 22°C, is insoluble in water, and is nonionic. It is resistant to hard water, acids, and alkalis. It is produced by reacting o-aminophenol with chloroacetic acid (or 2-chloroacetyl chloride) in the presence of a catalyst to form 2-chloromethylbenzoxazole, which is then condensed with sodium sulfide, and finally reacting with ethylene glycol to yield the product; after further processing, it is marketed as a pale yellow, uniformly dispersed solution; it is primarily used for whitening polyester and exhibits excellent lightfastness. It can also be used for whitening plastics, coatings, acetate fibers, nylon, and chlorinated polyesters; when used in combination with the fluorescent whitening agent DT, it exhibits a significant synergistic whitening effect.
