Introduction and Application
HEPBS is a white crystalline powder, suitable for cell culture medium and cosmetic raw material buffer. Its pH value is stable and does not affect enzyme activity, but is affected by temperature.
HEPBS is a white crystalline powder at 25℃. Its pKa value is 8.3, and this acidity value is in line with the environment for cell growth. The HEPBS produced by our company is reagent grade, and its aqueous solution is slightly turbid and needs to be prepared and used immediately. In practical applications, it is used as a buffer after titration with sodium hydroxide solution. In 33%W/W sodium hydroxide solution, its ultraviolet absorbance is less than 0.1.
Within the pH range of 7.6-9.0, the buffering capacity of HEPBS buffer is strong. However, it is greatly affected by temperature. Therefore, when using HEPBS as a buffer, the influence of biochemical reaction temperature should be considered. HEPBS is a zwitterionic compound with both positive and negative charges in molecular structure. Its chemical structure contains piperazine ring, and its chemical properties are inactive. It does not affect the activity of enzymes, does not react chemically with most metals to produce precipitates, and does not change the activity coefficient of the biochemical system, but can be oxidized by strong oxidants and reduced by strong reducing agents.
HEPBS is a member of the piperazine series buffer family. It can coexist with cations in cell culture media and provide the acidity environment required for cell growth. It is commonly used in cell culture media to stabilize the pH value of the cell growth environment. Because it has a high pKa value like EPPS and is suitable for use on the skin, HEPBS can act as a buffer in cosmetic raw materials to adjust the acidity and alkalinity of various cosmetic ingredients.
