Introduction
15-Crown-5, also known as 1,4,7,10,13-pentyloxadiazole, is usually a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid. It has good solubility in polar organic solvents (such as alcohols and acetonitrile) and is partially soluble in water. 15-Crown-5 has a strong complexing ability and can selectively form stable inclusion complexes with certain alkali metal ions (such as sodium ions). The size of its internal cavity is relatively compatible with sodium ions, which gives it a unique advantage in coordination chemistry and ion-selective sensing.

Phase transfer catalyst and complexing agent in organic synthetic chemistry. It matches the radius of sodium ions and can be used as a sodium ion carrier
