Introduction
1,8-Octanediol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₈H₁₈O₂.. It appears as white crystals or powder, with a melting point of 57–61°C, a boiling point of 278.8°C at standard atmospheric pressure, and a boiling point of 172°C at 20 mmHg. Its density is 0.9 ± 0.1 g/cm³. It is soluble in methanol and slightly soluble in water. It is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of cosmetics, plasticisers, and speciality additives.
1,8-Octanediol is a widely used organic synthesis intermediate for polyester polyols, polyurethane epoxy resins, UV light-curing monomers, etc.
