Introduction

3-Hydroxypyridine is soluble in alcohol and water, slightly soluble in ether and benzene. It forms a red solution when it meets ferric chloride and is easily decomposed in the air. It is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. It is prepared by sulfonation, alkali fusion and neutralization of pyridine.
