Introduction
Azelaic acid is obtained through a chemical reaction with vegetable oils. It is most commonly used in skin care to treat acne. Additionally, azelaic acid reduces melanin production by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase (mostly indirectly).
It also inhibits the proliferation of melanin abnormal cells (melanocytes).
Therefore, it can be claimed to be used in make-up products for whitening/brightening, acne and blemish removal.
