Introduction:
Bismuth subnitrate acts primarily on the gastric mucosa and is an antacid that has been shown to protect the gastric mucosa. It has been used to treat duodenal ulcers and as an antidiarrheal agent. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved bismuth subnitrate as an active ingredient in over-the-counter antacids.
