Introduction
Liraglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 is a physiological polypeptide in the human body. It can promote the secretion of insulin by pancreatic β cells according to the level of glucose in the body, inhibit the secretion of insulin antagonist hormone glucagon, and thus play a hypoglycemic effect. However, the GLP-1 produced by the human body is very unstable and will soon be degraded by dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) in the body. If natural GLP-1 is used to lower blood sugar, continuous intravenous infusion or continuous subcutaneous injection is required.
Liraglutide is an acylated GLP-1, that is, one amino acid is replaced in the molecular structure of natural GLP-1 (lysine at position 34 is changed to arginine), and a 16-carbon palmitoyl fatty acid side chain is added at position 26, thereby retaining the efficacy of natural GLP-1 while overcoming its disadvantage of easy degradation.
Application
As a new type of hypoglycemic and weight-loss drug, liraglutide has the effects of lowering blood lipids and reducing weight, as well as good hypoglycemic effects.
