Introduction 

Piroctone olamine is a white or pale yellow crystalline powder with a melting point of 130–135°C, a density of 1.1 g/cm³, and a boiling point of 344.1°C. It is stable within a pH range of 3–9 and is used in certain personal care products; currently, it is primarily found in mid- to high-end products, as well as leave-on and acne-fighting products.

Piroctone olamine is easily soluble in ethanol and slightly soluble in water. It is safe, non-toxic, and non-irritating. A safe, mild and effective preservative approved by the European Union, it can remove dandruff caused by fungal infection, prevent the formation of new dandruff, keep the scalp clean and non-itching

Applications

Piroctone olamine can be used for acne skin caused by Propionibacterium acnes, and it can also effectively eliminate odor and reduce oil secretion on the surface of the skin.
Piroctone olamine also has broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal properties and has a significant auxiliary thickening effect on the viscosity of surfactant systems such as polyethers.
Therefore, piroctone olamine has the effects of removing dandruff, relieving itching, being antibacterial, deodorizing, and being anti-acne and can be recommended for facial care, shampoo, hair care, soap, and other products.
