Introduction
Poly(tetrahydrofuran), abbreviated as PTHF, PTMG, or PTMEG, is a highly flexible, hydrophobic polymer. It is a white, waxy solid that is soluble in alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatics, and chlorinated hydrocarbons, but insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons and water; it becomes a transparent liquid when heated above room temperature. It is widely used in the synthesis of thermoplastic elastomers such as polyesters and polyurethanes. The addition of PTHF imparts abrasion resistance, hydrolytic stability, and attractive dynamic properties to the material.
Applications:
Poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTMG, PTMEG) is a key raw material for the production of spandex and polyurethane elastomers. Used as the soft segment in polyurethane, it provides polyurethane products with excellent hydrolysis resistance, low-temperature resistance, and dynamic properties. It can also be used as a primary raw material for elastomer products, synthetic leather resins, and elastic fibers (spandex).
