Introduction
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), also known as povidone, is a synthetic water-soluble polymer.
This product is non-toxic, non-irritating, hygroscopic, and easily soluble in water, alcohol, amine and other organic solvents. It has excellent solubility, film-forming properties, chemical stability, physiological inertness, adhesion and complexing ability.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) products have application properties such as adhesion, film-forming, dispersion and thickening. They have very wide uses in the field of pharmaceutical preparations and are one of the three major new pharmaceutical excipients advocated internationally.
Specifications:
The K value is calculated based on the polymer molecular weight and the viscosity of the aqueous solution, and is divided into the following types:
| K Value | Average molecular weight Mv | Application | |
| KT12 | 10.2 - 13.8 | 3,000 - 7,000 | It is used in liquid preparations as a solubilizer, dispersant, and crystallization inhibitor. |
| KT15 | 12.75 - 17.25 | 8,000 - 12,000 | |
| KT17 | 15.3 - 18.36 | 10,000 - 16,000 | |
| KT25 | 22.5 - 27.0 | 30,000 - 40,000 | It is used in solid and liquid preparations as a binder, film former, solubilizer, suspension stabilizer, and dispersant. |
| KT30 | 27 - 32.4 | 45,000 - 58,000 | |
| KT60 | 54 - 64.8 | 270,000 - 400,000 | It is used in preparations as a binder, thickener, and suspension stabilizer. |
| KT90 | 81 - 97.2 | 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 |
