Introduction and Application
Properties:White crystals with a slightly sour smell. Soluble in water, soluble in potassium acetate, insoluble in ethanol, and the aqueous solution is acidic. It does not lose hydrogen fluoride in dry air, but absorbs water and releases hydrogen fluoride in humid air. Hydrogen fluoride begins to escape when heated to 310°C, and the vapor pressure of hydrogen fluoride can reach 1 atmosphere at 400°C. The activity of molten potassium hydrogen fluoride is greater than that of potassium fluoride; it is a twin crystal compound. Toxic.
Uses:It is used as electrolyte for producing elemental fluorine, flux for welding various metals, wood preservative, catalyst for benzene alkylation, etc.
