Introduction to Sodium Polyacrylate CAS 9003-04-7

Sodium polyacrylate, or acrylic sodium salt polymer, abbreviated as ASAP, is a polymer compound with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. It belongs to a type of polymer electrolyte with the chemical formula (C₃H₃O₂Na)ₙ and a relative molecular weight of less than 10000. It is a white powder, odorless and tasteless, with strong moisture absorption. It can slowly dissolve in water to form an extremely viscous transparent liquid. The viscosity of a 0.5% solution is about 1 Pa·s, and it can coagulate at a pH of around 4. It can dissolve at a pH of around 2.5, and precipitation will occur below pH 4. Heating treatment, neutral salts, and organic acids have little effect on the viscosity of sodium polyacrylate, while under alkaline conditions, its viscosity increases. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone and does not decompose when heated to 300°C. When encountering metal ions above divalence, it will form insoluble salts, causing gel precipitation.
