Introduction

Tert-dodecylthiol is a colourless, oily liquid with a foul odour. It has a freezing point of -7°C; a boiling point of 200–235°C (at atmospheric pressure) or 165–166°C (5,199.5 Pa); an explosive range of 0.7–9.1% (v/v); a flash point of 129°C; a viscosity of 5.3 centipoise; a density (d₂₀/₄) of 0.854; and is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, benzene, gasoline, and esters. It is primarily used in ABS resins, styrene-butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, and high-impact polystyrene products as a molecular weight regulator during polymerisation reactions. It can also serve as a stabiliser and antioxidant for polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and other polyolefins.

Tert-Dodecylthiol is an organic sulfur compound with a special structure and activity. It can be used to construct a stable metal surface modification layer and improve the interface properties of the material. In certain metal catalytic reactions, the thiol group can form a stable complex with the metal ion to regulate the catalytic activity. By interacting with the metal surface, a protective layer is formed, which helps prevent metal corrosion.

Tert-dodecylthiol is mainly used in ABS resin, styrene-butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, and high-impact polystyrene products as a molecular weight regulator during the polymerisation process. It can also be used as a stabiliser and antioxidant for polyolefins such as polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene and can also be used as a raw material for synthesising certain drugs, pesticides, fungicides, and fragrances.
