Introduction and Application
α-Octyl cyanoacrylate is often used to prepare medical skin wound adhesives for surgical haemostasis, suturing, and sealing of surgical incisions close to the edge of the skin surface, including sealing of punctures in minimally invasive interventional surgery and sealing of wounds after complete debridement. It cannot be used for closing the subsurface layer of the skin. When other methods are ineffective, it can be used for spraying wounds after debridement under direct vision or laparoscopy in the body and for sealing/haemostasis of bleeding on organ and tissue wounds. It can also be used for embolisation treatment of gastric varicose veins.
