Introduction and Application
Propyl p-toluenesulfonate, CAS 599-91-7, molecular weight 214.28, is a clear, pale yellow liquid with a density of 1.1–1.15 g/cm³ (25°C), a boiling point of 320.8°C (760 mmHg) or 140°C (2 mmHg), and a flash point of 147.8°C. Its vapour pressure is 0.000583 mmHg (25°C). It is stable under normal temperature and pressure and should be stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry place. Propyl p-toluenesulfonate is classified as a Category 2 skin irritant and a Category 2A eye irritant. In case of skin contact, rinse with soap and water; in case of eye contact, rinse continuously with water and seek medical attention.
Propyl p-toluenesulfonate is mainly used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical raw materials.
