Introduction
1-Octanol (CAS 111-87-5) is an organic compound—a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a strong greasy odor and citrusy aroma. It is a saturated fatty alcohol and a T-type calcium channel (T-channels) inhibitor with an IC50 of 4 μM for the natural T current. It is a highly promising biofuel with diesel-like properties and can also be used in fragrances, cosmetics, and other applications.
Applications
1-Octanol is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a strong grease and citrus aroma. It is immiscible with water, but miscible with ethanol, ether, and chloroform. 1-Octanol is mainly used in the production of plasticizers, extractants, and stabilizers, and can also be used as an intermediate for solvents and fragrances.
