Product Details

Introduction and Application

4-Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, also known as p-fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, is a white to light brown crystalline solid powder at room temperature. It is slightly soluble in water (0.1 g/mL) and soluble in alcohols, ethers, and other organic solvents. It is sensitive to moisture but stable at room temperature. It is non-flammable; however, high temperatures can cause decomposition, producing toxic gases such as hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride. 4-Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride is irritating to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes and can cause burns. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Toxicity data are lacking; its toxicity can be inferred from that of fluorobenzene and benzenesulfonyl chloride and is similar to that of benzene.
4-Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride is primarily used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. It is corrosive to metals and can release hydrogen gas. It may pose a hazard to the environment, and special attention should be paid to water bodies. The environmental hazards posed by by-products and waste generated during production must not be overlooked.

Toxicity and Environmental Impact

Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride is toxic, but there is a lack of specific data on its toxicity. Reference can be made to fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, which is similar toxicity to benzene. Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride has irritating effects on the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes and can cause burns. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. May be harmful to the environment; special attention should be paid to water bodies. The pollution that by-products and waste generated during its manufacturing and production process may cause to the environment cannot be ignored.
