Betaine hydrochloride is a general term for a class of organic compounds. It is a white to slightly yellow crystalline powder with a sour taste, hygroscopicity, easy to dissolve in water and ethanol, difficult to dissolve in ether and chloroform, and reacts with alkali. Betaine hydrochloride is an efficient, high-quality, economical and widely used nutritional additive for attracting and promoting growth in livestock, poultry and aquaculture.
Betaine is a non-essential nutrient that exists in many food sources, including beetroot, wheat bran, rye, barley, spinach, quinoa, brown rice, sweet potato, turkey breast, beef,veal and some seafood, such as shrimp. It was originally discovered in beets, and the name betaine comes from beets.
It is mainly used in food and feed additives.
