Introduction
Copper oxychloride is a green or dark green crystalline powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in dilute acids and ammonia water. It reacts with alkalis to form a blue, flocculent precipitate—copper hydroxide—and decomposes in boiling water to form black copper oxide. It is highly stable in air. It has very low hygroscopicity and does not readily cake. The surface of copper(II) chloride solid particles is neutral and does not readily react with other substances.
Applications
Basic copper chloride is used as a copper-source feed additive in the breeding of pigs, poultry, dairy cows, beef cattle, horses, aquatic animals, and pets. It is insoluble in water and easily absorbed by the animal digestive tract. Basic copper is highly stable and does not react chemically with premixes or other sensitive substances in feed, thus avoiding waste. Its excellent bioavailability makes basic copper products an ideal copper-source feed additive.
