Introduction 

Deferoxamine Mesylate is an iron chelator that is commonly used to study cell proliferation and apoptosis. It has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro and in vivo, and inhibits the proliferation of cells in the G1 phase.
Induces apoptosis in HL-60 cells by chelating iron. DNA fragmentation was evident after 48 hours of treatment with 1 μM deferoxamine. Cells treated with 0.1 μM deferoxamine underwent apoptosis after only 24 hours; nuclear collapse was observed after 48 hours.
Some studies have shown that it has antioxidant properties and protects cells from H2O2-induced damage.
