Introduction
Diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, also called diglyme, is an excellent non-protonic polar solvent that can be used in polar organic reactions. For example, it can be used as a solvent for anionic polymerization and coordinated ionic polymerization and as a solvent for reduction, alkylation, and condensation reactions; it can also be used as a medium for Grignard and similar syntheses; it can also be used as a pollution-free cleaning agent, extractant, diluent, pharmaceutical additive, and resin solvent.
