Introduction
Diethylene glycol divinyl ether (CAS 764-99-8) is a colorless, transparent liquid with a density of 0.9 ± 0.1 g/cm³ (25°C), a boiling point of 195.4 ± 25.0°C (at atmospheric pressure), a flash point of 62.2 ± 20.5°C, and a refractive index of 1.429 (20/D). Its hazardous properties include the potential for combustion or explosion when exposed to high heat, open flames, or oxidizing agents; the formation of explosive peroxides upon contact with air or light; and the possibility of polymerization at high temperatures, which can cause container rupture. It must be stored in a light-protected, sealed container with a polymerization inhibitor added and kept away from oxidizing agents and acids and bases. It is primarily used in mercury-free processes for the preparation of acetaldehyde and the synthesis of polymer materials.
Diethylene glycol divinyl ether is a multifunctional vinyl ether compound widely used in polymer synthesis, medicine, and fine chemicals.
