Introduction and Application
Polyquaternium-7 is a cationic quaternary ammonium polymeric surfactant that appears as a colorless, viscous, transparent liquid. It is typically sold as a 10% aqueous solution with a viscosity range of 10,000–20,000 mPa·s at 25°C. with a pH of 5.0–8.0 and a density of approximately 1.02 g/cm³. It is highly soluble in water, safe, and non-toxic, with good hydrolytic stability and a decomposition temperature of approximately 150°C. It stabilizes clay minerals through adsorption, resists erosion by acids, alkalis, salts, and crude oil, and prevents wetting reversal.
Applications:
Polyquaternium-7 is a cationic copolymer with high charge density. It can maintain good stability in a wide range of pH values. This feature can effectively improve the dry and wet combing properties of hair, give the skin a smooth and moisturizing feeling, and can be used in the care of human hair and skin.
Polyquaternium-7 is primarily used in the personal care industry. In shampoos, it acts as a conditioning agent to enhance hair shine and comb-through; in skincare products, it forms a lubricating film; and in shaving creams, it improves foam stability while enhancing the crack resistance of soap-based products. Additionally, it is used in the water treatment industry as a flocculant, in industrial cleaning agents, and in the oil extraction sector. It exhibits good compatibility with anionic, nonionic, and cationic surfactants and increases viscosity in detergents by forming polyvalent complexes.
