Introduction
p-Tolyl isocyanate is a clear, slightly brown liquid at room temperature, with a density of 1.056 g/mL (at 25°C), a boiling point of 70–72°C (10 mmHg), and a flash point of 66.7°C. Its refractive index n₂₀/D is 1.531, and its vapour pressure is 0.5 mmHg. It is classified as a Class 6.1 hazardous material and must be stored in a sealed container in a dry, inert gas environment, away from moisture, amines, and alcohols, as well as oxidising agents.
Application
p-Tolyl isocyanate is used in many fields. For example, in the field of dyes and photosensitive materials, p-toluene isocyanate can be used to prepare dyes and photosensitive materials, and can also be used to synthesize polyurethane materials.
