Didecyldimethylammonium Bromide (CAS 2390-68-3) is a grayish-white powder or lump, with a melting point of 149–151°C. It is soluble in methanol and is classified as a cationic surfactant and an asymmetric phase-transfer catalyst. Its GHS hazard labels include skin irritation, eye irritation, and respiratory tract irritation. It is suitable for ruthenium(III) chloride-catalyzed oxidation reactions and is used as a biochemical reagent in life science research. It must be stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry place.
Didecyldimethylammonium bromide is used as an asymmetric phase transfer catalyst, especially suitable for oxidation reactions catalyzed by ruthenium trichloride. It is also used as an emulsifier, disinfectant, bactericide, antistatic agent, etc.
