Aspartame is a high-intensity sweetener with the chemical name L-aspartate-L-phenylalanine methyl ester. Aspartame is a dipeptide composed of two amino acids: L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine. These ingredients are commonly found in everyday foods and are metabolized by the human body. Aspartame tastes sweet and is about 200-300 times sweeter than sucrose.
