Introduction
3-(Cyclohexylamino)-1-propanesulfonic acid (CAPS) is an ampholyte, a detergent with a high affinity for basic proteins, and can be used to extract these proteins from biological samples and solubilize them. The strong interaction between the ionic and hydrophobic groups makes CAPS more efficient than other detergents for protein extraction. In addition, CAPS has been shown to inhibit chemiluminescence in some cases, and this inhibition may be due to its binding to luciferase or its substrate luciferin.

Application
