Introduction to Tributyl Phosphate CAS 126-73-8
Tributyl phosphate is an organic compound that is a colorless, almost odorless liquid. Mainly used as a solvent, it is also commonly used as a plasticizer for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber, and polyvinyl chloride; an extractant for rare metals; and a heat exchange medium. Due to its low surface tension and slight water solubility, it can be used as an industrial defoamer to effectively keep the foam film in an unstable state and rapidly defoam. Cannot be used for food/cosmetics.
Tributyl Phosphate CAS 126-73-8 Applications
Tributyl phosphate, referred to as TBP, is miscible with various organic solvents and is difficult to dissolve in water. Because tributyl phosphate is stable and resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, strong oxidants, and strong radiation, it is widely used in the nuclear fuel and metallurgical industries. TBP has the largest tonnage of extractants in the world.
Tributyl phosphate is used as an extractant for metal complexes, as a main plasticizer for cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl chloride, and as a solvent for coatings, inks, and adhesives.
Tributyl phosphate has a good inhibitory effect on acrylates, methacrylates, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, styrene and butadiene, and its inhibitory performance is better than phenols.
Tributyl phosphate can be used as a solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, a defoamer, a heat exchange medium, a plasticizer and an extractant.
